On my Goals for 2018 and a Possible Blogging Identity Crisis

Hello, friends! So it’s been a little while since I’ve posted a more personal update on this blog, so I thought, why not share some of my goals for this year? Okay, I know that it’s February, but better late then never…. right?

Normally, I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions, because I am of the belief that they will inevitably fail, no matter what they are. Honestly, they probably still will, but let’s  not give up before we even try.  The past couple years have been interesting for me, as they have been for every single one of my fellow TAPIFers out there. I’ve done quite a bit (although not enough) travelling, lived in France, and gotten (in my opinion) remarkably better in French without really trying (that’s immersion for you, I suppose).

The first and probably most important goal I have for this year, is to get a full time, benefits included, job teaching French. I would absolutely love to go back to the Philly area to do so, but I’m not going to put all my eggs in one basket, since French teaching positions tend to be few and far between if I’m being completely honest.  I need a real job, with a real salary so I can start paying for those pesky student loans. Gotta love being an young American, amirite?

My second goal is one that is kind of up in the air, meaning that I’m not entirely sure if it is even possible, but ya know? I’ve come to quite enjoy running this blog as a hobby as well as the community I have come to know through starting it. Therefore, my second goal is to continue to grow this blog and improve as a blogger and writer. Additionally, I feel like I need to start to try some new things, so that when I am no longer in France, I can continue to use this space as a creative outlet, since other countries and months of free time will not come by as easily.  So what is next for this blog? Obviously I will continue to write about teaching and traveling when I can.

One possibility brings be to my third goal, but at the moment, I’m not terribly confident I have the skills or personality to really pull it off. I had decided that in 2018 I wanted to to learn more, and become more skilled at makeup and fashion. I’ve always been interested in it, but I’ve always shied away from trying new things, and fashion-wise, I tend to stick to the same old uniform- tight jeans/pants and over sized shirts.  Same thing with my hair and makeup, I usually stick to the same couple styles I know I can do well, and never anything else.  So maybe I could try to hold myself accountable and try creating a “Erin’s Style/Fashion Journey” segment? Would anyone even be interested in that? And if they are, how do Fashion People write about these kinds of things? I’m really not sure i have the skill set for it. So followers and people who happen across this post: Is this something anyone would like to see from me? Any advice on how to get started?

My last goals I have for this year are one’s I am carrying over from 2017.  The first is a rather obvious one coming from me, and it’s to keep travelling to new places, both in Europe and in America. I love exploring, so even when this program is over, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied enough to quit. The second is to get back into and continue to learn Korean.  Yes, that’s right, I’ve started the Korean DuoLingo course (currently still in beta) and learned to read Hangul, the Korean alphabet. I think it’s such an pretty and interesting language so I want to continue to improve, and maybe get to a level where I can, you know, actually have somewhat of a conversation!

So, there you have it- my goals for this upcoming year. What do you think? Too ambitious? Have any in common? What are your ambitions for this year? Let me know!

  1. OK, I’ll admit that I was reading this like “goals…I had those once. All the best!” and then I read that you were learning Korean. That’s so cool! I actually am as well and I’ve now gotten a ton of apps and different sites/etc. which can sometimes be daunting but here’s hoping we can both stick it out!
