5 Reasons YOU Should Travel Solo

As all of you who read my blog probably know, since I am living in Europe, I am trying my  best to see as much of it as I can. Now, this means that sometimes, if I really want to go somewhere, I will have to go alone. Those of you that have never gone on a trip alone may be understandably nervous, as I was. However, through my experiences I have seen and learned a lot, and discovered that solo travel is not so bad or stressful after all! So here’s 5 reasons that you should try solo travel!

  1. You don’t have to plan around someone else’s schedule.
    1. Sometimes, when you plan a trip with a group of people, picking dates can be annoying. Everyone’s so busy these days, so if you travel alone there’s no bending over backwards to include everyone!
  2. You don’t have to consider someone else’s budget or discuss money with your friends.
    1. This is especially true for people who are traveling on a budget! Worried about disappointing your friends because you can’t pay for that fancy meal out? Travel solo, and you only have your budget and preferences in mind.
  3. You can do whatever you want!
    1. This is one of the biggest benefits in my book. When traveling solo, you can pack your schedule as tightly or as loosely as you want! You can do everything you want to do, and not have to make time for the things someone else wants to do that you aren’t interested in!
  4. You can sleep as much or as little as you want.
    1. This one goes along with the number three. You make your schedule, so you can go to bed as early or as late as you want, and wake up as early or late as you want! Also, there’s no waiting around for your friends or family to get ready while you’re ready to go.
  5. You can meet new people!
    1. Now, a lot of people avoid solo travel because they fear they might be lonely- and this can be the case, especially if you only stay in expensive hotels. However, staying in hostels is a great way to meet other travelers! Whether its people to spend the whole day with or just go for dinner and drinks with, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and start a conversation! Especially with other solo travelers. However, during times I traveled with friends, I have never met many people.

You can gain some more independence!

This one is more of a long-term benefit, or can be. By traveling alone and being forced to figure everything out and solve every problem on your own and learning to have fun by yourself, you might come to realize how easy it can be to have a good time hanging out by yourself! Next time you want to go see that movie and all your friends are busy, maybe you won’t be afraid to go see it on your own, and have fun whether someone else is with you or not.

Of course, that’s not to say you won’t ever need human interaction again, because let’s face it- having people to share experiences with is vital for happiness as well.

  1. Agree to all of this! I tend to enjoy being on my own, and so solo traveling really works for me. However, there are some times when I wish that I could travel with somebody, just so we can share the same wonderful experiences together and talk about it long after the trip ends. Either way, traveling is wonderful!
